About Tommy

Tommy grew up in the fifties and sixties listening to all kinds of music from country to big band, blues, soul, pop, rock 'n  roll, rock and reggae. His parents were fans of swing music and threw some great parties with alot of terriffic dancing. Tommy found elements of all of this music that appealed to him but he was naturally drawn to the blues."The Blues is the heart of all modern music and you can find everything in the blues." As a youngster Tommy was introduced to a strict study of classcal piano. Unfortunately this was lost on an eight year old and it couldn't hold his interest. However his love of music continued and he was an avid listener and supporter of the many talented players in his area. He knew that some day he would get the chance to share in the experience of making music, but this would have to wait.
While at university Tom began coaching gymnastics and this became a vocational passion which consumed his energy for twelve years seven days a week. During his career he produced a number of national and international athletes, one of whom won two events at the Canadian National Championships , a bronze medal in Cuba, and was the first in the country to successfully land a full twisting double back salto in competition. Tom worked served as a member of the Men's Elite Planning Commitee for the Canadian National Gymnastics Team and enjoyed many other successes coaching at some of the best clubs in the country. It did, however, become apparent that in order to have success coaching one would have to live in a large city and having tried it a few times Tom realised that this was not for him. So at age thiry he packed it in and moved back home. He got a job selling cars, completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree and more importantly learned to play guitar.
Within a year he formed the Whiskey River Blues Band and in the past twenty years has realised his many of his dreams of playing with most of the hometown greats along with many of his blues heroes such as Dutch Mason, Jack de Keyzer, MIchael Pickett, Kenny Johnson, and Maurice John Vaughn to name a few.
Tommy has recorded two albums of original blues tunes and is currently working on more.
He also managed to find the "Holy Grail" when he married the lovely Linda.  Linda and three great kids Carolyn, Trevor, and Stephanie have made for an enriched life.
Tom continues to play regularly with the Whiskey River Blues Band and also regularly plays with daughter Stephanie in an acoustic duo.He and Steph will be recording together soon also.
